Why Is It Always a Choice Between Retirement and Having Kids?
There’s a growing number of millennials forgoing kids so they can save up for an early retirement. This blog post from retirement myth-busting site the Abandoned Cubicle shares with us his thoughts on the subject.
While he agrees that having kids is indeed just as expensive as some experts say, it’s still possible to retire early in spite of that. And he makes a case by citing some early retirees who’ve already done it. It’s a lot more difficult than just straight up saving for retirement for sure. But, the joy and the pride that you can only get from having kids is something that no amount of money can buy.
In the end, he understands why millennials experience so much pressure to be financially independent at an early age. But their desire to have kids aren’t diminished by that. “The crop of millennials out their seeking early retirement and financial independence are no less inclined than their non-FIRE peers to have kids. In fact, they’ll fall right in line with the overall cohort trend of having kids later on. Smart,” he writes.
It’s an insightful article that we at Retirement Life Magazine can definitely certify as a must-read!
